From 12-19th October at C20 library Brangerous hold an exhibition tribute to the subordinate gender -woman-emancipation and breast cancer issue. With sharing time ‘Feminist’ from Esther Kuntjara-(lecturer of Petra Christian University) and ‘Breast Cancer Awarness’ from Reach to Recovery Surabaya (RRS).
Also Negozio with the Brangerous artists painted shoes and accessory shops by Gendhis creative and SAE, contributed this event.
not forget to mention the murals decorated every side of the library wall, all was inspire by the color associated by woman-pink.
the biggest unfortunate was the absence of me, for I was sitting confronted my essay for mid exam, pity, but what could I say? Gladly Shelly documented every details of the event, I must thanked her BIG!
and these were the masterpieces,(I don’t own these images)
and last but not least..was my art work, asked us to contemplate our position as woman. Women have always been struggling to get equation against men, as the baton is passed through us, the grapple must go on, but then are we ready?
‘Sex Sells’ might be something that we often hear, it signs woman as sex symbol, and I believe that we are all convening it as a commodity. It’s a capital actually, it sells.
I’m running toward participating the latest exhibition of Brangerous, celebrating a women existence amongst men..my artwork will be presented in two ways, one that I collaborate with Putri from Gendhis creative and an ambient media titled “estafet”. Art work made of money paper folded into bra like shape seduce us with a message of “Sex that sells” indeed, women are always be the object of exploitation that men seeking for. That’s why sex sells, it becomes a powerful capital these days.
the other one comes with different concept, a media that invites people to interact with. consists of 3 panels particle board, the idea of relay race passing baton hand by hand is being visualized quite well as the last image tease us with body gesture of hand giving Baton as if it for us, demanding us to take it and do the relay race on the context of women emancipation.
Abrakadabra is the title of this October 12th, 2012 next exhibition of Brangerous will let us to interpret women emancipation and celebration through art magic. We as artists can speak to the audience about woman value amongst man..hopefully our existence will be seen as equal as theirs, or maybe we just need to educate some who aren’t still broadminded nowadays..
